Causes and symptoms of ground voids
Understanding the cause of a void is key to a permanent solution. Voids are often a hidden problem that only becomes apparent when a slab starts to fail.

What are the signs of a void?
Hollow sounds when forklifts or heavy carts pass over an area
Noticeable vibration or "rocking" of a concrete slab panel
Sudden, localised cracking or sinking of the floor
Uneven slab joints that were previously level

What are the most common technical causes?
Soil migration / washout
The most frequent cause. Leaking pipes, broken drains, or poor surface water management can carry away fine soil particles (silts and sands) from beneath the slab, leaving a cavity behind.
Ground consolidation
Poorly compacted fill material used during construction will slowly settle and consolidate over time, creating a gap between the underside of the slab and the ground.
Soil displacement
Heavy, repetitive loads (like forklift traffic) or vibrating machinery can slowly displace and compact loose soils, creating small voids that grow over time.
Our solution: The Geobear void filling treatment
Our void filling treatment is a precise engineering process. We begin by drilling a grid of small diameter holes through the slab into the target area.
We then inject a multi-component, hydro-insensitive geopolymer resin. This resin is specifically designed to:
Flow & expand: The material expands at a controlled rate, flowing to fill the entire void, even in complex shapes.Repel water: Being hydro-insensitive, it displaces any standing water and is not affected by moisture, making it a permanent solution even in damp conditions.
Stabilse & support: It cures to be lightweight (so it doesn't add unnecessary weight to the weak ground) but has an extremely high compressive strength. It binds loose soil and provides durable, lasting support for the slab above.
