Soil shrink stopped

Challenge

A Fountain Hills homeowner discovered large foundation cracks while starting a remodel and needed to stabilize—and slightly lift—his foundation. After learning traditional pier solutions were costly and time-consuming, he chose Geobear for their faster, more affordable stabilization method.

Solution

Geobear conducted a detailed site and soil analysis, identifying clay soil shrinkage as the cause of the foundation issues. They then designed a custom plan to stabilize and lift the foundation up to two inches, completing the work in just three days with minimal disruption.

Background

Our customer recently bought a home in Fountain Hills and was looking forward to remodeling his new property. While beginning the remodel, he began pulling up carpets and tile. As he did, he discovered large cracks in the foundation all around the home.

Challenge

He reached out to multiple companies in the area seeking a solution. He knew he needed stabilization of the ground under his foundation. He was hoping to lift the foundation in the process with a goal of up to two inches in some areas.

First, he spoke to a company that specialized in helical piers. He learned about the expense and time it took to complete the work, and determined it was more than he needed. Then, he called Geobear. He was impressed with Geobear’s efficient method of stabilizing his foundation as well as reduced cost and improved speed to completion.

Our approach resulted in the foundation being stabilized in just three days. While lift cannot be guaranteed, we were able to lift the most damaged areas of the home by two inches uniformly and without any structural damage to the home.

Solution

Geobear’s expert team completed a thorough site analysis – documenting all issues, measuring the level of sinking, and defining the areas for treatment. Our team then brought in an engineering firm to complete a soil investigation and map the soils beneath the property. It was determined that the cause of his issue was shrinkage in the ground beneath his home due to clay soils.

Upon completion of this soil investigation, our team designed a customized plan to treat the ground, stabilize his foundation, and provide lift where possible. Our goal was to achieve two inches of lift in the areas where the most damage had occurred. The project was completed in just three days with minimal disruption to the home and landscaping.

Results

Our approach resulted in the foundation being stabilized in just three days. While lift cannot be guaranteed, we were able to lift the most damaged areas of the home by two inches uniformly and without any structural damage to the home.

Without the need to excavate, Geobear technicians performed the work with no damage to his home or digging of landscaping and cement. The customer was very happy with the results and impressed with Geobear’s cost-effective, efficient, and hassle-free approach.
