Challenge
A residential property in Nottinghamshire experienced subsidence due to weak or variable soils, resulting in cracking and differential movement requiring foundation stabilisation.
Solution
Geobear delivered targeted geopolymer injection to strengthen underlying soils and re‑support foundations, preventing further movement with minimal disruption to occupants.
Private home stabilised
Soil strengthening beneath foundations
No underpinning or structural excavation
A homeowner in Nottinghamshire reported cracking to internal and external walls, along with signs of differential settlement. Investigation indicated weakened or compressible soils beneath sections of the foundation.
The client required a rapid and cost‑effective solution that would prevent further movement without the disruption associated with traditional underpinning.
Conventional underpinning would have required excavation around the affected foundations, structural intervention and extended programme durations.
The objective was to restore ground bearing capacity quickly while maintaining occupancy and minimising impact to the property and surrounding areas.
Geobear designed a bespoke geopolymer injection scheme to improve soil stiffness and stabilise the affected foundation zones.
Small‑diameter injection points were installed externally, allowing a two‑component geopolymer to be introduced into weak ground. As the material expanded, it filled voids, compacted loose soils and restored uniform support.
All injections were carefully monitored to ensure controlled and precise ground improvement.
The property was stabilised without excavation or structural rebuilding.
Works were completed quickly and efficiently, providing a durable, lower‑carbon alternative to underpinning while allowing the homeowner to remain in residence.
