Lewisham gateway void filling

Challenge

Voids were identified beneath ground slabs at Lewisham Gateway, compromising support and posing a risk to surface stability in a busy urban development.

Solution

Geobear used precision geopolymer injection to fill voids and re‑establish ground support beneath slabs, delivering rapid stabilisation without excavation or disruption.

Background

At Lewisham Gateway, voids had developed beneath ground‑bearing slabs, reducing uniform support and increasing the risk of settlement. In a high‑profile urban environment, maintaining safety and minimising disruption were critical.

A fast, non‑intrusive ground improvement method was required to protect the structure and surrounding infrastructure.

Challenge

Traditional excavation and reinstatement would have caused significant disruption to a live development area and increased programme time.

The project required a precise, controlled method to fill voids and stabilise the ground without removing slabs or impacting nearby structures.

Solutions

Geobear delivered a targeted geopolymer injection programme beneath the affected slabs.

Small injection points were drilled through the slab to access voided areas. A two‑component geopolymer resin was introduced, expanding to fill voids, compact loose soils and restore uniform support.

Real‑time monitoring ensured accurate control of material placement and lift, achieving effective stabilisation with minimal disturbance

Results

Ground support was successfully reinstated and voids fully filled without excavation.

The works were completed quickly and safely within the constraints of a busy urban setting, providing a durable and lower‑carbon alternative to traditional reconstruction.
