Farnham rail depot

Challenge

Ground instability and settlement required remediation to protect structural performance, without invasive excavation or prolonged disruption to the surrounding area

Solution

Geobear delivered precision geopolymer injection to stabilise underlying soils, improve bearing capacity and restore long‑term ground performance with minimal disruption.

In situ ground improvement

No bulk excavation required

Minimal site disruption

Small plant footprint

Rapid curing material

Fast return to service

Background

Settlement and reduced ground strength were identified at the Farnham site, creating risk to structural integrity and long‑term asset performance.

A solution was required that would strengthen the ground efficiently while limiting disruption to adjacent structures and operations.

Challenge

Traditional underpinning or excavation would have required significant access, extended programme duration and increased carbon impact.

The client required a controlled, lower‑impact alternative capable of delivering measurable ground improvement within a constrained site environment.

Solutions

Geobear implemented a carefully designed geopolymer injection programme to improve soil stiffness and bearing capacity beneath the affected area.

Small‑diameter injection tubes were installed at calculated depths to introduce a two‑component geopolymer beneath the structure. Upon mixing, the material expanded to fill voids, densify loose strata and re‑establish support.

Real‑time monitoring ensured controlled improvement and protection of the existing structure throughout the works.

Results

Ground stability was restored without disruptive excavation or structural alteration.
The works delivered a durable, efficient and lower‑carbon alternative to traditional repair methods, improving long‑term asset resilience.
