Challenge
Settlement of hardstanding at Dover Docks created uneven surfaces and operational risk within a critical port environment, requiring rapid re‑levelling without disrupting port activity.
Solution
Geobear used precision geopolymer injection to re‑level slabs, restore ground support and enable continued dock operations with minimal downtime.
Works delivered within live dock facility
Targeted slab lifting and stabilisation
Areas reopened shortly after treatment
At Dover Docks, areas of concrete hardstanding had experienced settlement due to loss of ground support beneath the slabs. The uneven surfaces impacted operational efficiency and posed potential safety risks within a busy port environment.
Given the strategic importance of the site, maintaining continuous operations was critical throughout the works.
Traditional excavation and reconstruction would have required extensive plant, significant programme duration and disruption to port logistics.
The client required a solution capable of restoring levels quickly, safely and with minimal impact on surrounding infrastructure and daily operations.
Geobear implemented a controlled geopolymer injection programme to stabilise and re‑level the affected slabs.
Small‑diameter injection holes were drilled through the concrete and geopolymer was introduced beneath the slabs as a liquid. The material expanded to fill voids, improve ground bearing capacity and gently lift the slabs back towards design levels.
Injection was monitored in real time to ensure precise control of lift and uniform ground improvement. The fast curing properties of the geopolymer allowed treated areas to be returned to service rapidly.
Surface levels were restored and long‑term ground support re‑established without large‑scale excavation.
The works were delivered efficiently within a live port setting, minimising disruption while enhancing asset resilience.
