Addressing the unseen threat to excavation

Addressing the unseen threat to excavation

Water ingress into an excavation can occur for many reasons, including:

  • Defective construction: Faulty joints or cracks in the shoring wall itself.
  • High groundwater pressure: The natural water table is pushing against the shoring.
  • Weakened ground: Water is flowing through poorly compacted or porous soil behind the wall.
  • Hidden services: Water from old, forgotten utilities or drainage pipes.

Even a small leak can quickly erode the ground behind the shoring, creating voids and destabilising the entire excavation. This compromises worker safety and the integrity of surrounding buildings and roads.

How can Geobear help?

Geobear's aater sealing treatment is an ideal, non-excavation alternative to traditional methods. Instead of digging from the outside, we inject a fluid geopolymer from within the excavation. This solution has a number of key benefits :

1
Seals water leaks

Our geopolymer flows into cracks and voids, then rapidly expands to form a solid, waterproof mass. This immediately stops the water flow.

2
Improves the ground

The geopolymer also densifies the surrounding soil, strengthening the ground and helping to prevent future ingress.

3
Is up to 70% faster

The entire process can be completed in a fraction of the time it would take to excavate and repair from the outside.

4
No additional excavation

Solution does not require full excavation of site or water removal prior to works.
