Extending asset life: the core of our ESG commitment
We provide engineered solutions that not only solve complex ground challenges but also extend the life of valuable assets, delivering a significant, measurable reduction in environmental impact.
This commitment is certified by our ISO 14001 environmental management system and is embedded in every project we deliver.

True sustainability in construction and maintenance comes from maximising the life of what we have already built.
The Geobear solution is designed to do exactly that.

By improving the ground beneath existing structures, we prevent the need for costly and carbon-heavy reconstruction.
This approach avoids major excavation, minimises the use of new materials like concrete and steel, and dramatically reduces transport emissions and waste generation.
Our work is a direct contribution to the circular economy, preserving value and protecting our environment.
Proven low-carbon solutions across every sector
Our commitment to sustainability is validated by independent, third-party analysis. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) reports, conducted by Carbon Footprint Ltd, compare the Geobear solution to traditional methods across our key sectors, proving our significant carbon savings.

          For homes
A 53% carbon reduction
Choosing Geobear over traditional piled raft underpinning is a more sustainable choice. Our process avoids major excavation and uses 6.5 times less steel, resulting in 53.02% less carbon emissions for a typical domestic project.

          For highways
A 76% carbon reduction
Our solution offers a vast carbon saving compared to full concrete bay replacement. Over a 40-year asset life, the Geobear approach results in a 76.02% avoidance of CO2e emissions, saving over 103,000 kgCO2e.

          For rail
A 95% carbon reduction
Our non-invasive treatment provides a dramatic environmental saving. Compared to a full track slab replacement, our solution delivers a 95.11% avoidance of CO2e emissions over a 60-year asset life, saving over 189,000 kgCO2e.

Societal impact: delivering public & economic value
Our work provides a significant and measurable benefit to society, far beyond the project site.
Saving public money & time
An independent study estimated that for highway works, our faster maintenance and reduced delays save the public £87M per year in road user costs.
Minimising public disruption
We design our solutions for minimal disruption. We often work at night and require a much smaller work zone, reducing congestion and closures for the public.
Building for the future
Our materials have an estimated design life of 120 years, far exceeding the 50-year requirement for highway repairs and ensuring long-term structural resilience.
Reducing noise pollution
Our operations are quiet. Noise surveys confirm levels as low as 76dBA at just 5m from the source, minimising our impact on neighbours in urban areas.
Beyond carbon
Our commitment to people and principles
Our ESG commitment extends to our people and our practices. Guided by our SPIRE values, we are dedicated to safety, integrity, and our community.
A constant SHEQ focus For us, our commitment to SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) is fundamental. Our philosophy is simple: in each of these areas, we are either doing the job right, or we are doing it wrong. There is no middle ground.
Safety
We go beyond policies to build a "safety first" culture, combining precautions and safe behaviours to proactively prevent accidents and harm.
Health
We are dedicated to the complete physical, mental, and social well-being of our employees, our partners, and the public.
Environment
We are committed to continuously improving our systems to control and minimise our environmental impact.
Quality
We believe exceptional quality management is essential to increase our efficiency, reduce waste, and grow effectively as a company.

      Health & safety:
 a "safety first" culture

Our commitment to H&S is our culture. It is the first item on every agenda, from senior management reviews to daily site briefings. All staff participate in our risk awareness programme and receive comprehensive training.
Near-miss reporting
We foster a no-blame culture where all employees are encouraged to report near-misses. For every card submitted, we make a charitable donation.
Proactive HAVS management
We meticulously control Hand-Arm Vibration (HAVS) risk. An automated HSE-compliant calculator, embedded in our system, determines safe work limits before each project begins, ensuring our team is always protected.
Social responsibility & our community
We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings. Geobear has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and human trafficking within our business and our supply chain.
We operate a robust set of policies, including a Whistleblowing Policy with a confidential reporting line (Safe Call), and conduct due diligence on all suppliers to ensure they share our commitment to ethical practices.
Environment:
A sustainable solution
Our geopolymer solution is inherently more sustainable than traditional methods. By strengthening the ground, we avoid the need for excavation, which has a massive positive impact on the environment.
Lower carbon footprint: An independent assessment of a sample project showed our process produced 46% less CO2 than traditional grouting (10.4T vs 19.5T).
Fewer HGV movements: Our method requires less plant and materials, resulting in 67% fewer HGV movements to and from a site (5 vs. 15 for a typical project).
Protecting groundwater: Our geopolymer materials are non-toxic, non-leaching, and will not contaminate groundwater tables or aquifers, as verified by independent studies.
Responsible waste management: We follow the waste hierarchy. 95% of our site waste is converted to Solid Recovered Fuel, we clean and re-use our steel drums, and we recycle 100% of our scrap steel tubes.
Protecting natural habitats: Our teams are trained to protect their surroundings, from managing Japanese Knotweed on a Scottish site to safeguarding a crayfish breeding area at Lambrigg Bridge.

Frequently asked questions
Your sustainability questions, answered
Here are the answers to some common questions about the environmental credentials of the Geobear solution.
Embodied carbon refers to the total greenhouse gas emissions generated to produce a material. Traditional methods rely on huge quantities of high-embodied-carbon materials like concrete and steel.
Our solution uses far less material overall, resulting in a dramatically lower embodied carbon footprint.
Our carbon savings are calculated using a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted by the independent organization Carbon Footprint Ltd.
This "cradle-to-gate" assessment analyzes every stage, from raw material extraction to on-site implementation, ensuring the data is accurate and verified.
