Geobear was appointed to stabilise a residential property in Co. Clare after long-term subsidence caused widespread structural movement.
Significant cracking had developed on every elevation of the property and was visible both internally and externally. Movement had also caused the garage access door to become inoperable, affecting the property's day-to-day usability.
The homeowner required a permanent, cost-effective solution that could be completed quickly while avoiding the disruption associated with traditional underpinning.
Concrete underpinning was considered as a potential repair solution but was rejected due to the extensive excavation, prolonged programme and disruption involved.
Traditional underpinning would have required a minimum of six weeks on site, together with excavation, spoil removal and heavy construction equipment.
The challenge was to permanently stabilise the foundations while allowing the homeowner to avoid lengthy building works and major disruption.

Geobear designed a bespoke geopolymer injection solution to strengthen the ground beneath the affected foundations.
Over of 52 injection points were installed to depths of over 2m metres below foundation level. Through each injection location, carefully controlled quantities of expanding geopolymer were introduced into the weakened soils, where the material filled voids, compacted loose ground and restored foundation support.
Drain monitoring was carried out throughout the works to verify stability and ensure the effectiveness of the treatment.
The complete stabilisation programme was delivered in four days, with no excavation, spoil removal or heavy construction plant.
The property was successfully stabilised with minimal disruption to the homeowner.
